A look at the benefits For ORCID memberships

ORCID is a non-profit organization that supports researchers, research institutions, publishers, and funders around the world. ORCID’s open, trusted, and inclusive identification system allows researchers to obtain a unique iD and connect it to pertinent information including grants and publications, helping them save time while maintaining control over their profile information.
To access ORCID on an individual level, one need simply create an account at orcid.org. Registering for an ORCID iD is fast, free, and opens a world of more possibilities and less hassle with the freedom of knowing that by using your ORCID iD this disambiguates your work as a researcher and makes getting the correct recognition easier.
To take it a step further, ORCID offers membership to any organization interested in integrating ORCID identifiers at a fee. The fees are used to offset costs necessary to sustain and improve the registry, as well as to deliver the services required to fulfil the ORCID mission of connecting research and researchers. More information about membership types and fees are accessible on the following link https://info.orcid.org/about-membership/. Currently, ORCID has over 1,200 members, including research organizations, publishers, funders, professional associations, and other stakeholders in the research ecosystem.
ORCID Membership fee discounts:
To encourage small and start-up organizations to embed iDs, organizations with less than US $200,000 in revenue in their last fiscal year are eligible for a 75% discount on basic or premium membership.
Non-profit organizations are eligible for a 20% member fee discount on basic or premium membership fees.
Discounts will be evaluated at each membership renewal. Non-profit and start-up discounts are not applied to premium consortium agreements.
*Consider joining ORCID through a consortium and save on annual membership fees.
ORCID has a lot to offer researchers on an individual basis and even more benefits for the different types of organisations that register to become members, these especially apply to organisations such as research organisations, funder, publishers and research resources.
ORCID for Research Organizations:
These organisations are involved in research, scholarships, and innovations thus putting them in a unique position to connect validated, trustworthy information about their researchers and their affiliation with the research organization to their ORCID records.
ORCID strongly encourages you to plan and build ORCID integrations or use an ORCID service provider that enables research organizations to add and update this information for their students, faculty, staff, alumni, and members.

ORCID for Funding Organizations:
Using ORCID helps funding organizations build a trusted research information infrastructure. By embedding ORCID iDs in your funding workflows you can:
● reliably connect your grantees and funding programs
● assert connections between individuals and the grants you award them
● save time by reducing errors caused by manual data entry
How Funding Organizations are using ORCID:
● Use our workflow-based documentation to build ORCID into your grant workflows.
● Discover our outreach resources to help engage with your researchers.
● Developing policies for the use of ORCID, including requiring their researchers to use an iD during the grant application and/or publication process;

ORCID for research resources:
When the term “research resource” is used, it refers to a wide variety of facilities used to support results from research activities, such as facilities that house specialized equipment.

Types of research resources:
● There are several types of research resources ranging from single-use reagents to international collaboratives with dedicated facilities, and persistent identifiers can be used for all of them.
● For more information on these resource types please refer to the table on the ORCID website. Available at: https://info.orcid.org/orcid-for-research-resources/
ORCID for Publishers:
Successful publication of research brings good attention to researchers as well as scholars within institutions. Worldwide there is a lot of pressure being directed towards researchers and scholars to write more, having your work published a high-quality journal is used as a criteria to select those researchers & scholars who are deemed as the best.
Due to this, publishers who are members of ORCID have a great advantage. ORCID enables the publishers’ authors, editors, and reviewers to reliably connect to their contributions and share accurate information from their ORCID record as they interact with publishers’ systems.

This is essential to search and discovery, indexing, publication tracking, funding and resource use attribution, and supporting peer review.
How to register:
